Following the Path of the Prophet from Makka to Medina: Hijra and the Indonesian Death Metal Musicians

This article uses Horkheimer and Adorno’s dialectic of enlightenment negative dialectics to situate Indonesian Death Metal musicians’ abandonment the scene (subculture) so as explore religion. The research method used is literature search, participant-observation, semi-structured interviews with musicians conducted over period 2018-2019 for this subproject. Adorno might have seen it using religious faith critique Western liberal-democracy rationality but, if that case, requires us view decadence opposite sides same coin, both being integrated, not separate, aspects culture infusing global metal scene. what Islamic resistance project all about those who leave ones remain. latter seek meaning beyond or outside conventional understandings lyrics discourses.
